What's On Your Self Love Menu?

Self Love Menu

Last week, while I was sewing some table cloths for our upcoming market in Stockport, I was listening to my newest obsession, the Goal Digger Podcast with Jenna Kutcher.  I love this podcast for its practical and easy-to-understand advice for female entrepreneurs like me, but I also love it for the guests Jenna frequently invites on the show.

This particular episode featured self-help author, motivational speaker, and podcaster Melissa Ambrosini, who spoke about a concept that I latched onto immediately: when speaking to clients about finding ways to “recharge” or “fill up” after a long or stressful workday, she asks them to create a Self Love Menu of activities that give them a sense of well-being and fulfillment.

This struck a chord with me, because the last several weeks have been very high-intensity and at times stressful, and though I love my job and look forward to it every day (yay for being your own boss!) I still need to take time to step away and engage in something that doesn’t involve a screen (no more binge watching Friends reruns on Netflix), and that relaxes and recharges me.

Mat and I took a short holiday to Devon this past weekend, and getting out into nature, exercising, camping, and swimming in the ocean, I realized how crucial these things are to my happiness and health.  I could feel anxiety and negativity leaving my body as our holiday went on, and I realized I need to work more self-love into my day-to-day.  So I came up with the following menu, to help me keep some balance even as I’m striving to make my fledgling business a success:

  • Go for a walk/run/swim/bike ride
  • Do a home mani/pedi
  • Take a bath
  • Listen to a podcast
  • Play with the cats
  • Do a face mask
  • Read a book
  • Send an email to a friend
  • Journal
  • Sketch
  • Meditate
  • Do some yoga
  • Bake something
  • Make some herbal tea
  • Burn a candle
  • Write a letter
  • Practice piano
  • Cook a healthy meal
  • Study a foreign language
  • Stretch
  • Call a family member
  • Listen to music
  • Take a nap
  • Hang out with a friend
  • Spend time in the garden

Having this list in front of me makes it much easier to find ways to take care of myself in the hours between work and sleep. What would you include in your Self Love Menu?
