Over the last few months I've tried a lot of homemade recipes, particularly cosmetics and toiletries. Some have been more successful than others, but the DIY deodorant I tried this week was a total win. Just a handful of ingredients, and easy to put together.
WHAT YOU NEED
- Coconut oil
- Arrowroot powder
- Essential oils
HOW TO MAKE IT
- Combine equal parts coconut oil and arrowroot powder (I used about a quarter cup of each)
- Add the essential oils of your choice (I used tea tree, lavender, and peppermint)
HOW TO APPLY
With a clean finger, apply a very small amount to your armpits and gently rub it in until the oil is absorbed. If you use too much, the coconut oil will start to liquify on the surface of your skin and cause you to sweat more, and may leave a deposit on your clothes, so apply sparsely.
Enjoy your fresh-smelling pits!
Anyone who suffers dry skin like mine will understand - when your skin is dry, cracked, and red in the cold winter months, you’re willing to use anything that works.
OK, so I don't flatter myself that anyone actually gives a shit what's in my makeup bag - I'm certainly no beauty expert. I just wanted to show you in order to illustrate a point. This is the makeup bag of a person who is in transition, working toward a less wasteful lifestyle.
You can reap a lot of savings by making some of your own cosmetics and toiletries, with the added benefit of knowing exactly what's going into them (no mystery un-pronounce-able ingredients, thank you very much!).
